The Dragon pneumatic railcar opener is built from the ground up to open the new larger doors. This door opener is not converted from something else. It can be ordered with both powered vertical height adjustment and turning wheels for traveling capstans.

The dragon uses a torque bar to accept the pneumatic load and forbids the pneumatic rail car door opener to squat or become unstable in operation. We use a Globe VA6C vane air-motor, bi-directional control system with a maximum continuous speed of 3000 rpm; the intermittent duty is 6000 rpm. The axial loads are minimum. Airline filtration & lubrication are 64 microns and 6-7 drops per minute. (See operator’s manual) The Demon will require 90 psi @ 70 cfm; you need a ¾” air line. The Globe 4 hp air motor drives a Brevini power transmission that has a 315 to 1 ratio. The amount of torque is related to pressure. This Epicycloidal type transmission is fairly bullet proof. The shaft will turn 12 rpm with no load.

The first pneumatic unit, called the Dragon, has a semi fixed shaft height and non-turning wheels. The shaft height is usually set for your lowest capstan. The Dragon can then be tilted back for higher capstans. This will work with a 6” variance of capstan height, more than that you will have to re-adjust the power shaft height either manually or with a cylinder drive. Also if you have an occasional moving capstan, a fixed wheel model demon will in most cases easily slide sideways, (depending on your floor) of course with many doors like this you would want to order the side shift wheels.
